This past weekend was amazing! It was Bass Pro Shops Southern Open at the Harris Chain of Lakes in Tavares Florida! I accomplished my third B.A.S.S win!
I was the only angler weighing in at over 20 pounds each day, totaling 72 pounds and 11 ounces over the three day tournament. All of my Bassmaster victories have come in from Southern Opens. The first two were in 2006 and 2010, on Lake Okeechobee.
I used a variety of baits. I caught several fish on soft plastics, including 7-inch Gambler Sweebo worms, Gambler Cane Toads and the Gambler Big Easy, but I found my bass with a chartreuse Luck “E” Strike RC2 crankbait. I used it as a search bait. When I found bass with it, I’d pick up the soft plastics and really work the area over again.
I really learned to fish the area the way the fish wanted me to. The wind from the south and the water temperature were also key.
All my equipment played a huge part in helping with the win from my Power Pole new 10 foot Blade to my Mercury motors and everything in between.
Thank you to all my fans, friends, family and sponsors for your support. I am so happy I was able to bring a win home for you all!
Overall weigh-ins
Day one 20 pounds and 8 ounces.
Day two 44 pounds and 6 ounces.
Day three 72 pounds and 11 ounces.
